Welcoming the first member of the new Discovery family, Jaguar Land Rover (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (JRLM) has officially launched the all-new Land Rover Discovery Sport. Described as the “world’s most versatile premium compact SUV, the Discovery Sport will be offered in two variants – the 2.0-liter Si4 Petrol (240PS, 340Nm) and the 2.2-liter SD4 Diesel (190PS, 420Nm).
“The launch of the all-new Discovery Sport is a pivotal moment in Land Rover’s 67-year history,” said Tuan Syed Mudzhar Syed Ali, Managing Director, JLRM. “Not only does it mark the introduction of the first new member of the expanding Discovery family, it also brings the versatility of 5+2 seating to the compact premium SUV market,” he added.
Both the variants will be paired to an advanced nine-speed automatic transmission for a better driver engagement and off-road capability. The price for the diesel variant has yet to be revealed but the Si4 Petrol is priced from RM 399,000 (price includes GST, but excluding road tax, registration and insurance).
The Discovery Sport is laden packed with innovative features such as a 5 + 2 seating, powered tailgate and configurable mood lighting. Also available are an array of optional equipment that one could choose from like the Park Assist with Parallel and Perpendicular Parking, Automatic High-Beam Assist, Lane Departure Warning, panoramic roof and Meridian audio sound system with HDD navigation.
The all-new multi-link rear axle has also proved crucial where it had allowed Land Rover to introduce the 5 + 2 seating to a whole new segment and at the same time offering best-in-class off-road performance. Sticking true to its roots, the Discovery Sport triumphs over most terrains with its 600mm wading depth, optimised approach, departure and break-over angles and Terrain Response System.
This system grants the Discovery Sport’s steering, throttle response, gearbox, centre-coupling and braking/stability systems to be precisely tailored to the demands of the terrain. There are four settings to the system: General, Grass/Gravel/Snow (slippery conditions on- and off-road), Mud and Ruts, and Sand.
And to spice things up during the launch which at the same time demonstrating the capabilities of the Discovery Sport, a state-of-the-art mobile man-made track called the Terrapod was placed at the parking lot of 1 Utama to give the fans the opportunity to experience the all-terrain capabilities first-hand.
The Land Rover Terrapod is open to the public during the Discovery Sport Open Day at the 1 Utama Shopping Centre (Old Wing) outdoor carpark on August 22 and 23, 2015 from 11am to 9pm.
