Is Lamborghini working on a wilder RWD version of the Huracan?

Like how the name suggests, the 5.2-liter V10 engine in the Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 evenly distributes its power to all four wheels. Most people have no problem with this, but some had voiced out their dissatisfactions saying that Lamborghini had gone soft by not introducing any wild RWD models to enter its current line up

Obviously they had spoken too soon as the Huracan is still pretty much a new car and Lamborghini actually has plans in making such Huracans in the near future. Lamborghini had confirmed that they will be developing a lighter and more extreme Huracan to compete against Ferrari’s new turbocharged Stallion, the 488 GTB.

The car will basically be a successor to the Gallardo Superleggera, which suggests the car to get a lighter body, more power and in this case, rear-wheel drive. But that will not be the only street-going RWD Huracan as there is also another version in the pipeline. Like the Gallardo, Lamborghini will also be developing a cheaper rear-wheel drive Huracan that will get the LP 610-2 designation.

This information does not come from any anonymous source as according to a report from Australia’s Motoring, it was Giorgio Sanna himself who had shared this interesting information. The chief test driver for Lamborghini said this to British car magazine Evo during the launch of the LP 620-2 Super Trofeo at the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo World Finals last year at Malaysia.

He also added that the Gallardo Superleggera’s successor will be following the same concept as the 458 Speciale, which refers to weight reduction, power increase and the focus on track driving.
