If it is news about a police force acquiring a fast car into their inventory, the names of Dubai or Abu Dhabi will usually pop out. But this time, it is the turn of Avon and Somerset Constabulary in southern England as rather than getting a big and monstrous machine like the Bugatti Veyron, they went on with the minimalist approach and went on with the Arial Atom.

But do not let the skeleton-like exterior fool you as with the absence of any excess weight, the Atom’s tuned Honda engine produces 350-horsepower and is enough to propel it from zerotohundred in just 2.6 seconds. The Atom also gets the British police’s iconic “Battenberg” livery, a blue light bar and fully-functioning sirens.

Although impressive, it is told that the Ariel Atom’s main task will not be high-speed pursuits. It will instead be used to promote motorcycle safety, since the Ariel two-wheeler is coming up soon and company boss Simon Saunders aims to raise awareness on road safety for motorcyclist.

“There is a time and a place (for going fast),” said Saunders. While the Atom is a fast car, it is at its best on the track, and not on the road; which applies the same to motorcycles, he added.
