Making its first appearance back in 1988, the Summer Nationals or famously known as SummerNats has grown to be into a genuine Australian icon. Raking over 103,437 spectators and voted as Australia’s Favorite Event in 2013 and 2014, the folks in Malaysia will soon be able to experience first-hand the atmosphere of this event as the first ever SummerNats Malaysia will be held at Sepang International Circuit.
Brought in by JPM Motorsports, this auto festival will be held over four days from 29 August to 1 September 2014. This event was officially launched by Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri bin Tan Sri Abdul Aziz, the Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia together with Mr. Russell Avis, General Manager of SummerNats Australia, Mr. J.P. Chin, Founder of JPM Motorsports and witnessed by Ms. Susan Kahwati, Senior Trade & Investment Commissioner of the Australian Trade Commission in Malaysia & Brunei and Datuk Razlan Razali, Chief Executive Officer of Sepang International Circuit.
Being the first ever SummerNats to be held outside of Australia, Summernats Malaysia will be diversifying their attraction to welcome not only the four-wheeled machines, but also those in the custom motorcycle and superbikes scene, aside from making the event a more family-oriented weekend for the spectators.
“Having an event, not only for the enthusiast, but one which caters to the entire family is something we strongly believe in. We’ve proven this to become a successful formula for three years running when we previously acquired the rights to host the Malaysian round of the Super GT Championship,” said JPM Motorsports founder, J.P. Chin.
Hundreds of vehicles will be put on display on the event which consists of both American and European classics, sports and muscle cars, and some cars from JPM Motorsport’s very own auto museum. The event will also be supported by the presence of supercars from the Ferrari Owner’s Club of Malaysia, Porsche Club Malaysia, and the Lamborghini Owner’s Malaysia.
One of the highlights of the event will be the SummerNats Street Machine Parade which will see a wide mix of muscle cars, classic cars, supercars, sports cars, and their two-wheeled comrades to participate in a parade within and outside of the Sepang International Circuits. As for the bikers, they are in for a special treat as JPM Motorsports will be organizing a Malaysia Riding Tour in which the final rendezvous point will be at SummerNats Malaysia.
The first-ever SummerNats Malaysia will also coincide with the annual Sepang 12-Hour Race which was previously known as the Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race. Tickets to SummerNats Malaysia are priced at RM100 for four days, and are available online from the JPM/SummerNats website via appointed ticketing agents.
