Since the Mercedes-AMG GT is putting the Porsche 911 as one of its main rivals, they are not going to stop there as Porsche has countless variants of their beloved sports car. We have already heard of the possibility of the new GT getting a Black Series variant later in the future, but it seems that they have more plans in store for their new performance coupe.

Set to put the 911 GT3 as its main rival, this high performance AMG GT will be “a street-legal version of our GT3 racing car,” said AMG CEO Tobias Moers to Autocar. And one thing for sure, this new version will not be using the GT3 moniker as it had already been used by Porsche. “We will find another name for our car,” added Moers.

As for the time being, Moers could not confirm the exact date this new version will be unveiled. However, the FIA GT3 racing version of the GT will be made available from the 2016 season, replacing the mighty SLS GT3; which could at least serve as a hint on when it will be released.

“I don’t want to make a dragster that’s only good for doing 0-100km/h in 2.8 seconds. We need more power, less weight, better aerodynamics and different suspension but the target should be the power-to-weight ratio, drivability, lap time and tremendous feel.”
