Rolls Royce Wraith goes Hara-kiri in Malaysia!

Earlier this week, the Rolls-Royce Wraith was unveiled to select elite members of the Malaysian public. Touted as the most powerful, driver-oriented, luxury Gran Turismo Rolls-Royce in history, the event was held at the prestigious JW Mariott Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Together with the Wraith, two other models were also on display, as a homage to the marque’s automotive design success to date: the Phantom Drophead Coupe, and Ghost.

Powering the Wraith, is a twin-turbo V12 engine that produces a massive 624bhp and a mountain shifting 800Nm (from as low as 1,500rpm); enough to get the Wraith wafting thru the zerotohundred sprint in just 4.6 seconds. These is no small feat, especially given the mammoth 2,360kg kerb weight as well as Rolls Royce’s promise for effortless performance.

Dato’ Michael Ong, Managing Director for Rolls Royce Motor Cars Kuala Lumpur, said at the launch: “We are delighted to see Wraith here for the first time in Malaysia today. The team at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Kuala Lumpur is looking forward to delivering out very first Wraith to Malaysian customers by quarter four of this year. We are thrilled to be introducing this new model here today, a contemporary, elegant design for the iconic car marque.

The Wraith is the boldest, most dramatic and powerful Rolls-Royce that will be playing host to the iconic Spirit of Ecstasy figurine. It features a contemporary two-door design along with a fastback body that exudes power, style, and drama – inspired by the Grand Tourers of the Fifties and Sixties. On display was a Wraith that was finished in a two-tone paintjob – Diamond Black upper and Madeira Red lower, which complements the car’s fastback design along with its unique character.

Open the doors and a sumptuous interior reveals itself, complete with the softest leathers and the most luxurious wood-paneling. Interior ambiance is further complimented by Starlight Headliner, a Bespoke feature that is available beyond the Phantom line-up for the very first time. A whopping 1,340 fibre optic lamps are hand woven into the roof lining to give the impression of a glittery, starry night.

On the outside, the Wraith features a wider rear track, shorter wheelbase, and lower roof height which contributes to what Rolls-Royce calls the most involving driving experience ever in their history. The Wraith sits on a set of 21-inch five-spoke part polished wheels as well as their signature self-righting RR monogram. The car has been tuned to minimize body roll and discreetly amplify feedback when cornering; its steering weighs up at high speeds and lighter at slower speeds. Despite the improvements in agility, Rolls-Royce are adamant that there has been no compromise to the car’s waftability – the sensation of riding on a bed of air.

Other technological and electronic advances include a head-up display, adaptive headlights, and the Wraith’s keyless opening boot. A camera system is also included as standard for all Wraiths delivered in Malaysia. Satellite Aided Tranmission (SAT) makes a debut here. This system uses GPS data to see beyond what the driver can, and anticipates the driver’s next move based on located and driving style, selecting the most appropriate gear for the terrain ahead. This tech takes the powertrain delivery to a whole new level of effortless delivery, perfectly suiting the Rolls-Royce brand.

Prices for the Wraith starts from RM1.3 million (without taxes and charges), with final price really depending on your trigger finger. Like every other Rolls-Royce, there’s a standard 4-year unlimited mileage warranty (excluding tyres and glass), and service and maintenance is covered by the marques service package for the first four years. Oh, and a 24-hour roadside assistance, of course.
