Next-Gen Nissan GT-R Confirmed to come with Hybrid Drivetrain

The McLaren P1, Ferrari LaFerrari and Porsche 918. These three supercars might have been built by different manufacturers but they do have something in common – a hybrid drivetrain. Moving on into the world of tomorrow, going hybrid seems to be the inevitable way to get an extra oomph of horsepower to the wheels, which is why Nissan had decided to implement the system into their next-generation GT-R.

Aside from getting an extra boost from the drivetrain, going hybrid also comes in to lower emissions according to Nissan’s engineering, sales and marketing boss Andy Palmer.

“There is an inevitability about electrification of all cars in the future, and there is the very real prospect of enhancement coming from this and ending up on a sports car like the Nissan GT-R”, said Palmer.

“The electric systems can fill in the gaps in the torque curve and offer genuine performance gains, as well as lowering emissions. It’s win-win, and I’d expect to see some form of hybridisation on the next generation of cars”.

The current stock Nissan GT-R is powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that generates 542-horsepower and 463 lb-ft of torque. With such power, zerotohundred is dealt in only 2.9 seconds – imagine how it will perform once fitted with a torque-rich hybrid power?
