While we are still in excitement from the leak of the Nissan GT-R Nismo, Honda figured that it would be better if the news of the new Civic Type R to come from themselves. With that in mind, they had peeled off the black and white camouflage wrap and show the world how their new 2015 Civic Type R looks like.

Bathed in a coat of matte black paint/wrap, the new Type R will be housing Honda’s newly developed VTEC Turbo engine. This new power plant will have a displacement of 2.0-liters and squeeze out an output of 280-horsepower. They will need all the power they could get from this new engine as the new Type R is tasked for a very important mission: to beat the current record of the fastest lap for a regular production, front-wheel drive hatch on the Nurburgring. The record is currently held by Renault’s Megane 265 Trophy at 8:07.97.

The new engine is not the only thing new in the car as Honda has completely reworked the Civic five-door hatchback’s chassis components, covering the suspension and giving it wider tracks. The car also comes with electronic driver assist systems, 19-inch wheels and a massive Brembo stopping package residing behind it.

Aerodynamics is also something that they paid an extra attention to. This Type R gets its sporty looks thanks to the wheel arch extensions up front working together with the front bumper, a large rear wing and a rear diffuser.

“The car and the characteristics were fantastic. I was really impressed by the power and the torque of the engine but also by the set-up they achieved”, said Honda WTCC driver Gabriele Tarquini.

“The car is very pointed on the front and very fast to change direction. The car is very close to my racing car and you can feel very well the DNA of Type R”.
