Here it is, the official unveiling of the ultimate super athlete within the SUV segment by Automobili Lamborghini, the Urus concept. Named after Spanish breed of bulls (surprise, surprise), the Urus concept looks ready to redefine dynamics and design for the SUV category as it combines design uniqueness, a futuristic interior and out right performance with everyday versatility.
This particular Spaniard, birthed from the bull-pen of Sant’Agata Bolognese, will be armed with 600bhp for horns and has taken some lessons from the past, ever since it unveiled the LM002 back in 1985, which churned out 450bhp from it’s V12 mill and offered a top speed of 210kmh as you relax in its then luxurious interior .
The significance of the name Urus, also known as Aurochs, is predominantly due to the size of this particular breed, which is able to stand up to 1.8m at the shoulder. Go figure. However, the Urus won’t be matching that height, standing considerably lower than the competition at 1.66m tall and 1.99m wide.
The Urus undoubtedly retains much of the Lamborghini DNA with sharp lines, large air-intakes on both sides, the Y-shaped headlamps, the aerodynamically fluid and refined lines that run from hood to rear are characteristics that announces its from the Lamborghini breed and is indeed well-pronounced in the Urus.
The headlamps now take on a horizontal, heptagonal form (7-sided form) and features full LED technology consisting of two arrays each with three high-performance LEDs which lends the daytime running lights their characteristic Y-shape, while the LED fog lamps are positioned beneath the huge air intakes. Five carbon fibre winglets will help to optimize ventilation.
Lamborghini is saying that the Urus’ body will be outfitted predominantly by carbon fibre reinforced polymers (CFRP) only to be hidden by its rich, lightly shimmering red paint.
This future definition of the SUV segment will be receiving an all-new 24″ hooves wheels that will sport a double-spoke design and are forged from matte-finish aluminum.
There are no conventional exterior mirrors, instead small and aerodynamically optimized cameras monitor traffic conditions behind the vehicle and gets displayed via two TFT screens placed in ergonomically perfect positions on the left and right of the cockpit.
The interior of the Urus will evidently seat a maximum of 4 (driver included) comfortably in their their individual bucket seats made of Forged Composites and the interior will also be decked out in carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) and of course; leather-upholstery.
The steering wheel for the Urus has also been redefined, having only shift paddles behind it for the dual-clutch transmission and everything else such as indicators, lights and windshield wipers will be incorporated into either the multifunction steering wheel or the center console.
The driver gets information delivered via a freely programmable TFT screen behind the steering wheel. Secondary functions like navigation, entertainment and climate controls are operated via a touchscreen on the centre tunnel, made of CFRP, with a further touchscreen being readily available for passengers in the rear.
