Mitsubishi i-MiEV Evolution Crashes During Practice at Pikes Peak!

With the advent of electric vehicles slowly creeping into our lives, it’s never too early to get involved in motorsports, especially when you’ve got a point to prove against those who utilise petroleum-based fuels to race up Pikes Peak.

During one of Mitsubishi’s practice stints at the ever popular and infamous Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, Mitsubishi’s i-MiEV Evolution that’s been specially developed for the event with a tube-frame chassis, carbon fibre outer body shell and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system to boot, managed to miss a hairpin.

With two-time Dakar Rally winner, Hiroshi Masuoka behind the wheel at the time of the incident, it seems that the vehicle in mention seemed to have under-steered itself out of a corner due to either mechanical failure or driver error, somewhere at the lower section of Pike’s Peak and managed to have landed in a ditch with a whole lot more than just scuffed paint.

Although Hiroshi emerged unhurt from the incident and is capable of doing his job on Sunday, the car may not, as Mitsubishi engineers scurry to try and fix it up the car as best and as fast as possible to compete this Sunday.
