The group out-delivered themselves by delivering 156 vehicles more in the same period for 2011 and out of the 1,516 BMW vehicles, deliveries also consisted of 80 MINI’s and 74 Motorrad bikes, which is an overall increas of 16%.
Mr. Geoffrey Briscoe, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia, said “Our proactive introduction of sustainable and highly advanced green technology alternative vehicles to the Malaysian market has proven to be a key factor of our growing success as it has enabled us to serve a market which is becoming ever increasingly conscious of the need to conserve resources and the environment. Our bold strategy of introducing Advanced Diesel models when no one else was willing to do so has also paid off and today BMW Advanced Diesel variants comprise around 18% to 20% of our total sales volume. Moving forward we expect to further build on our success with the imminent introduction of our BMW Active Hybrid variants this year, and electric vehicles in the near future.”
BMW Group Malaysia has managed to become one of Malaysia’s rapidly growing premium automotive company over the last 9 years since entering the market in 2003.
Even though BMW is reaping the benefits in terms of sales, they’ve still managed to invest heavily into their Cyberjaya headqaurters, which includes their BMW Regional Training Centre and BMW Group Data Centre serving the Asia-Pacific region; local assembly facilities at the BMW assembly facilities in Kulim, Kedah and the BMW Regional Parts Distribution Centre in the Port of Tanjung Pelepas, Johor, the company provides skilled and professional work opportunities for Malaysians throughout the country and has also led to the significant transfer of advanced technologies and processes to the local automotive industry.
In addition, they have also ensured that Malaysian customers are introduced to and have access to the latest innovations and products that BMW AG has to offer,
“We are the Most Sustainable Car Company in the World so it is only natural that we should continue to grow our leading proposition, the BMW EfficientDynamics strategy here in Malaysia. We know and believe that Clean and Green Technology is the future of the car industry and by introducing them to the Malaysian market, we aim both to show our commitment and ambitions in the creation of cars that are not only fuel efficient and better for the environment, but also retain the drive feel and performance that is needed in a car which we call Sheer Driving Pleasure which is the signature of BMW.” said Briscoe.
Briscoe further commented that while the Malaysian government has made significant strides in encouraging the greater adoption of green technology, additional steps still need to be taken, particularly in light of the government’s set objective of achieving a 40% reduction of current emission standards by the year 2020.
“The current level of incentives for vehicles using alternate fuel and engine technology needs to be expanded to also encourage the greater adoption of diesel fuel in Malaysia, as was done with the introduction of tax and duty waivers on hybrid and electric vehicles. Furthermore, the current scope of government incentives for hybrid vehicles also needs to be expanded to encompass vehicles with engine capacities of two litres and higher as it is when we reach those engine ranges with which impactful benefits of utilizing the hybrid platforms truly emerge.” said Briscoe.
BMW Group Malaysia’s admits that their success was predominantly thanks to their fast growing network of dealerships throughout the nation that has helped contribute to the success of their products, in terms of accessibility and ease through the country.
Their dealerships have steadily grown to 15 outlets, especially with the introduction of four new dealerships within Kuala Lumpur itself, Kuantan, Butterworth, Johor Bahru, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu over the last 2 years.
BMW Group Malaysia has also ensured that fans and drivers of their MINI brand in East Malaysia are able to gain access to MINI Service Centres for their pride and joy in both Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, thanks to their new partners Regas Premium Auto and FM Autohaus respectively.
“Our goal in Malaysia has always been to provide customers with the complete premium ownership experience which goes beyond the precise engineering and innovative technologies which our vehicles are built upon and the significant success of our business in the first quarter of 2012 is the culmination of the tremendous amount of effort as well as investments which we have put into Malaysia. Today, we now possess the infrastructure, product and services portfolio which demonstrates why we are the most dynamic automaker in the premium segment of the car industry and through this winning combination, I am pleased to report that we are indeed now Malaysia’s number one selling premium automotive carmaker.” said Briscoe.
