When the latest Subaru Impreza WRX STI was released, fans were not too happy with the design, then when they found out that it was going to be a hatch only they almost took up arms, then it all died down like it always does. After some WRC stages and Ken Block’s awesome Gymkhana videos, fans began to love it. Now its back to the drawing board with Subaru introducing the latest WRX STI sedan.
It’s definately not pretty so lets not get into that, but it does sport wider arches that give it a mean look and the legendary wing is back so that’s a plus point but the entire design seems to be an after thought, which I really think it is. But, here’s the best part, according to Fuji Heavy Industries, this is the fastest STI ever.
The guys at Subaru Technica International haven’t added more power, in fact there’s nothing mechanical behind the increase in power but there’s the age old adage that lightweight means less drag and that means more power. And it applies to the 2011 WRX STI as well, the new model weighs significantly less than the current model and also uses a revised suspension set up that aids handling. So who needs a pretty looking Subaru when you have the fastest STI ever? Here’s a new video advertisement showcasing the new ‘Rex.
