David Coulthard To Race in The DTM Series

DTM seems to be the series for retired Formula One drivers to wind down from all the adrenalin of racing at the top. Many top Formula One drivers like Mika Hakkinen, Jean Alesi and Heinz-Harald Frentzen have made their way to the series and though some have been successful, many found the competition to be a lot more fierce than Formula One. Now taking the step is another retired Formula One driver, David Coulthard, or that’s what reports are saying anyway.

According to Autocar, DC may race in the DTM German touring car series this season. He tested a Mercedes C-Class for the first time at Monteblanco in Spain last week.

After retiring from Formula One, the 13-time GP winner went on to be play an advisory role in the Red Bull F1 team and then went on to be BBC’s F1 pundit. He has also been a Mercedes ambassador since the end of a 10-year spell racing for McLaren in F1, and he recently tested for two days alongside regular drivers Paul di Resta, Gary Paffett and Bruno Spengler.

Apparently there are no date clashes between the DTM and F1, meaning DC will continue with his BBC commentating role.

“Driving the DTM C-Class was a fantastic experience for me,” said Coulthard. “The car generates not only good power from the Mercedes-Benz engine but also high levels of downforce which gives great performance in medium and high speed corners.

“Overall I am very impressed of the DTM and enjoyed the experience a lot.”
