If you’re a super rich boyfriend or husband or even a rich daddy, this would be a good time to cringe, your kids/girlfriend/wife will have another item added to their wish list besides the Louis Vuitton handbag, a mansion and a helicopter that’s already there, not to mention that fat cheque at the end of every month. Volvo Cars Malaysia recently launched the new 3-door Volvo C30 here for RM215,500, cheap enough to make their case against your wallet even stronger and the fact that it is stunning doesn’t make it any easier. Who would have ever thought that Volvo’s boxes would one day evolve into this?
The C30 is hailed as the modern interpretation of the classic Volvo P1800 ES and combines styling cues from the Volvo Safety Concept Car. The C30 is powered by a 2.4 liter inline-5 engine from the S40 and churns out 170hp at 6,000rpm and 230Nm of torque at 4,400rpm and peaks out at 215km/h. Perfect shifts via the 5-speed Geartronic automatic transmission with manual sequential shifting as an option propels the car to a commendable 8.8 second century sprint.
The four-seater Volvo features such safety features as four-wheel ABS, DSTC traction control, Volvo’s Intelligent Driver Information System (IDIS) which continuously monitors the car’s steering wheel angle and pedal positions, and of course the annoying but useful optional Blind Spot Information System or BLIS. The system utilizes cameras in the wing mirrors to detect objects in your blindspot and warns you via indicators on the A-pillar. On the other hand, the IDIS system basically monitors various driver inputs and flashes a warning indicator when the car suspects the driver is in danger.
Standard equipment include a multi active air filter with sensor for the air conditioning, a volume sensor, level sensor, soft load cover for the rear luggage compartment, a 6-CD changer, power seats for the driver and passenger, leather upholstery, a 3-spoke steering wheel done in aluminium and leather, cruise control, rain sensors for wipers, auto dimming rear view mirror, cruise control, rear park assist, and 17 inch Mestra wheels.
Volvo has adorned the interior of the C30 in either aluminium, virtual white or light oak wood and is generously offering 17 different exterior colours, talk about being spoilt customers. The Volvo C30 is priced at RM215,500 OTR without insurance, and that also means that now will also be a good time to think about selling that classic Volvo you have been keeping for the past 30 years. There is no classic Volvo as gorgeous as this.
