Spy shot pictures of the new baby Rolls Royce, codenamed RR4, shows that the new luxury model will feature suicide doors. Understandably, its manufacturers will juggle for semantics and call it “coach doors” instead. The pictures of the shorter-wheelbase Roller give a fair indication of what the car will look like and details of the body, doors, bonnet and door handles are all exposed.
Although it’s still a big car, it will probably use the BMW 7-Series platform, but will be powered by its own bespoke engine, rather than a BMW powerplant. Although engineered in Germany, the RR4 will be built at Rolls-Royce’s new production line in Goodwood.
The engine is rumored to be either a twin-turbo V8 or a V12 tuned to produce number below that of the Phantom. The car will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2009 and go on sale in 2010. It is expected to be priced at around £170,000.
