Fresh new reports have raised linking double World Champion Fernando Alonso to Ferrari in what is purported to be a secret deal between the two Formula One greats. Italian paper La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Alonso has an agreement to switch to Ferrari in 2011 but could do so earlier as an early replacement for 2007 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen if the Finn continues his poor 2008 form.
The report also claims that the agreement between Ferrari and 27-year-old Alonso is quite open, with numerous two-sided exit clauses, but if the contract is fully exercised Alonso could have the Ferrari seat until the end of 2014.
A Ferrari spokesman could only say: “We can only repeat that we have two drivers signed to the end of 2010.”
Alonso’s current Renault contract also runs for two more years. This almost confirms the Spaniard as a Ferrari driver come 2011. One thing is for sure though, if and when Alonso gets into the Ferrari racer, he will definately be aiming to outclass and embarrass Mclaren and Lewis Hamilton in every single race in the calendar for years. That could turn out to be really interesting.
