Hi Hondarian sifus,

Really appreciate if you guys can help me out here..
iam actually planning to get a honda civic 96/97 year..( 4 door ones)
but iam a bit confused bout the models they have in malaysia.
as i know, there are two types ( EJ) and (EK)..
EJ is build in malaysia and EK imported...just wondering, wats the difference between this two..( from spec, bodykit, handling, engine, size of the entire build car (chasis), interior and exterior wise.
another thing is i have seen alot of ppl changing bodyparts ( 99 specs, VIRS, Rear Domani , etc ...) ..can all the parts can be installed into a civic EJ or EK without the need of modification to do all this that maybe tempered the car chasis. Same goes with the engine, if we were to get a b16a halfcut into a civic, will we need to change the mountings?

lastly, iam actually looking for a manual car. so i guess my best choice is a normal 1.6 civic EJ EFI model..( cause i heard that 1.6 VTEC doesnt have manual ( SOHC)
in this two model, which one is more realiable. ( in terms of performance and power)
just forget on the transmission and if this two compares, which one is better.

cheers
phil

if u plan to convert it later, just get the 1.6 EFI manual. coz there will less hasle for u when doing jpj approval.
sumore 1.6 EFI price cheaper than 1.6 sohc vtec.
thats if u plan to convert it later...

1)as u have already mentioned it yourself, since ej is a local model, local build quality is what you will get.

2)bodykits wouldn't affect your chassis integrity.

Hi guys, thanks for the reply,

so i can say that its difficult to find an EK rather than an EJ..
but how can we differenciate this two model since its the same?
is wat we see on the road normally EK or is it EJ?

cheers

It's fairly easy to identify the local stock EJ, trunk spoiler, reverse sensor, stupid 160 emblem, vtec decal on pillar C....etc

The correct way is to look at the tag on radiator support. The JDM EK or SGDM is blue tag which written in Japanese or English that states chasis code and number. The local EJ is red tag.

So basically all the civic we see on the road is EJ rite...oni couple is EK..
i have seen couple in motortrader...just wondering if they are EK or EJ cause normally they wont specify the model.

thanks for the guidance..will follow that when i go check out the cars but so far, i oni seen EJ.

Not all on the road are local but I'd say majority. Just ask the seller, local or import. Local civic year 96 is EJ6, EJ7(1997), EJ8(1998) and so on.... You can easily identify what year was the car when you look at the red tag.

hikaru might as well tell us how to spot the engine model... :)

It's all written on the blue tag for JDM model: EK2, EK3, EK4, EK5, EK8, EK9...... or else look at the code on motor: D15, D16, B16A, B16B....

There are only 2 versions for the local civic: Vtec and nonevtec. The Vtec is wearing black valve cover and usually auto while the opposite is usually manual, both SOHC.

Hi there,

So, basically every civic that we saw outside is from EK model ar? or some is converted frrom EJ?

Iam planning to get one (either Ej or EK) and convert it to 99 specs..
(the headlights- wats the different btw a 99 spec h.lights and a CTR h.lights)
thanks for the info...just wondering , among all the forumer, who uses a EJ with converted parts ( interior and exterior)

cheers

It's the process of conversion that makes it fun. It's like a Tamiya model only in actual scale. But once the conversion is completed..dunno what to do oredi....boring boring .....

cool guys,

at least when i got my car then i wont be lonely driving an EJ around..but still looking for a nice civic..

cheers
