Mobile phones and driving safety

It has been argued that the distraction caused by using mobile phones while driving is responsible for many road traffic accidents. Several studies have shown that motorists have a much higher risk of collisions and losing control of the vehicle while talking on the mobile telephone simultaneously with driving, even when using "hands-free" systems.

Legislation
Accidents involving a driver being distracted by talking on a mobile phone have begun to be prosecuted as negligence similar to driving while intoxicated.

At least 28 countries restrict or prohibit cell and other wireless technology while driving:

-Israel, Japan, Portugal and Singapore all prohibit mobile phone use while driving.
- Australia, Brazil, Chile, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Poland, the Philippines, Romania, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates prohibit the use of hand-held cell phones while driving.

-Drivers in the Czech Republic, France, and the Netherlands may use cell phones but can be fined if they are involved in crashes while using such a device.

Legislation to restrict cell phone use has been proposed in 40 states in the US; California, New York, New Jersey and Washington, DC have passed such a law. The state of Arkansas is voting on passing a law that prohibits talking on a cell phone while driving. The voting will take place in the last week of January 2007.

In the United States, such laws were first passed by individual cities and towns, until state legislatures began to pass similar laws. The first American town to pass such a law was Marlboro Township, New Jersey.

Driving with Mobilephone usage in Malaysia shall be fined up to MYR300.00

Aggressive driving

Aggressive driving is a form of automobile operation in which an operator will deliberately behave with contempt towards other drivers and drive in such a manner as to increase the risk of an automobile accident.

Unlike drunk driving, aggressive driving is not usually the result of a drug or chemical, but rather the personality of the person operating the automobile. An aggressive driver may adopt a "King of the Road" attitude and become offended when other drivers engage in such activities as passing or "cutting off" the driver. The aggressive driver will then take the actions of the other driver personally, and seek to retaliate. This normally leads to unsafe driving acts such as reckless speeding or attempting to run someone off a highway.

Aggressive driving can also lead to much more serious crimes, such as manslaughter or murder. An aggressive driver may drive so recklessly as to injure or kill another driver or, in extreme cases, will "hunt another driver down" and then deliberately attempt to harm the person. This is often known as "road rage".

Aggressive driving may, in rare cases, be caused by mental illness. Persons with mental diseases, who are driving, may become confused about where they are and who the drivers around them are. This could lead to fear, panic or other emotions causing the person to start driving aggressively.

Sleep deprived driving

Sleep deprived driving is the operation of a motor vehicle while being cognitively impaired by a lack of sleep. Sleep deprivation is a major cause of motor vehicle accidents, and it can impair the human brain as much as alcohol can. According to a 1998 survey, 23% of adults have fallen asleep while driving. According to the United States Department of Transportation, male drivers admit to have fallen asleep while driving twice as much as female drivers.

The effects of sleep deprivation on driving performance
Sleep deprivation has been proven to affect driving ability in three areas;

-It impairs co ordination.
-It causes slower reaction times.
-It impairs judgment.

zeno-17,
Take that incident as an 'evolution' of drivers. Where drivers evolve into more farked up drivers. hahaha

Today some stupid whore in front of me at the traffic lights decided to angle her rear-view mirror towards her so she could fluff her hair and touch up her makeup (yeah you look beautiful, bitch). She held up all the cars behind her, was slow to get moving, and as a result, all of us (including herself) missed the Green.

A few annoyed drivers behind honked. So did I. On the next green, I overtook her, went alongside, honked. When she looked, I pointed at her and then tapped my index finger several times on the side of my head. As I accelerated ahead, the next car behind me got alongside her...the guy rolled down the window and gave the finger salute to that idiot girl . LOL

Girls, next time you drive, do all the road users a big favour by putting on your mascara and your lip gloss at home and please roll your pretty curlers before strapping into the car. Just because you are the fairer sex, does not entitle you to act like a f**king retard.

fvel,
You shoulda just get down the car and walk towards her door with an angry face. It'd be good if you could bring a stick along with you. Then raise that stick up at her window and watch her do 0-100kmh in 2seconds. hahaha
