Formula Drift is spreading its wings all over the region with Abu Dhabi being the latest pit stop on its Asian sweep following the usual dates at Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Singapore that we’ve become accustomed to.
The inaugural Formula Drift ‘Urban Skillz’ Abu Dhabi event was held at the state-of-the-art Yas Marina Circuit and saw Team Need For Speed’s latest driver, Fredric Aasbo, take the win with some wicked angles that was near physic-defying in his monstrous Toyota Supra.
2010 Rookie of the Year Aasbo defeated Formula Drift regular Chris Forsberg in his Nissan 350Z in the final with Tanner Foust and his Scion TC completing the podium in his farewell Formula Drift appearance as he moves on to pursue more driving oppurtunities. Team Need For Speed also took fourth with ‘Mad’ Mike Whiddet and the Badbull Mazda RX-8 doing the honours.
With a slew of new names on the Formula Drift roster this year, especially Aasbo who will be piloting a brand new 2011 Scion TC, it’s going to be a cracking year for drifting and we can’t wait for the local round.
