Bought "Hard Edge of A Genius" in 1995. A year after his death. It was actually written in 91-92 season but the author added another chapter after Senna's death.

I particularly like the book as the author had all the facts spot-on and it was not written in hindsight or because the hero had died. Other books tend to be too much "reminisence" after Ayrton's death.

Both my Senna videos(VHS) were bought in Australia. dunno if can find here.

I'd rather remember his life, his brilliance in driving, his sheer determination.

The late Russel Bulgin ( Former Car, Autocar and EVO columnist) once wrote , remember the great man's life not his moment of death.

The article had a pic of Senna in the McLaren MP4/6 with 2 wheels on the grass at the apex of the turn. The caption/title was, aptly, "Remember him this way"

Yup. Remember his greatness.

It was like when George Best died. Everyone talked about his unhealthy lifestyle, his problems etc. When they should be remembering the times he put a smile on everyone faces, how he astonished everyone with his skill and charmed everyone with his charisma.

We should remember great men for their great accomplishments, not for their flaws for they are human as well.

i saw the clip that he crashed.
MS was behind him.
the camera at MS car clearly showed that he was drove off the track.
from wiki, the cause was due to cold tyre after the safety car. :(

that was what williams argued, they also claimed that he abruptly lifted the trottle, causing the unstability of the car and lack of downforce. the prosecutors were claiming that he lost control of the car due to the broken steering rod which was "modified" by the williams team to make more legroom. no one knows the real answer.

well, doesnt matter much, he's dead anyways.

quoted from wiki:
------------
In 2004, a television documentary by National Geographic called Seconds from disaster: The death of Ayrton Senna was screened worldwide. The programme considered the available data from Senna's car to reconstruct the sequence of events that led to the fatal crash. The programme concluded that an unusually long safety car period had reduced the pressures in Senna's tyres, thereby lowering the car. As the car entered the Tamburello bend, it bottomed-out and the loss of the ground effect led to a sudden reduction in downforce, and hence grip. As Senna instinctively corrected the resultant slide, the downforce and grip suddenly returned, and Senna effectively drove off the circuit.

The programme came to the conclusion that if Senna's reactions had actually been slower, he might have survived the crash. To many within the F1 world including drivers of that era who had raced at Imola, the conclusions drawn from low tyre pressure as a cause of the accident seem highly implausible. Telemetry recorded that Senna took the bend at 190mph on lap 6 with cold tyres. Alboreto and other drivers of the era claimed that given his lap time, his tyres would have been at race temperature by the 7th lap and it was not a factor in the crash.

Do not believe whatever you read. The stuffs from Wiki are flawed at times.

Nobody exactly knew what happened to Senna's car prior to the crash. It just seems his car veered off track in the Tamburello bend and smacks so hard into the barrier.

Just by the way, there was a court case involving Adrian Newey and Patrick Head whereby they were accused of causing death. Few years back, the two were cleared of manslaughter charges. Apparently, the steering column broke and there was no steering input leading to Senna crashing heavily coz unable to steer. However, Williams of Newey and Head said that the steering column snapped due to the crash and said that track debris caused Senna to lose traction.

So, Senna's death remain a mystery. However, one thing for sure. He was hit by his suspension rod on the head, thru the visor. That headblow probably killed him. Also, his in-car blackbox was mysteriously removed and was unreadable after being removed. Unconfirmed reports says that it was the work of some engineers that was trying to coverup something.

Also, apparently some onboard video shots were also missing, particularly 1 or 2 seconds before his impact. That would have showed what happened and what he did to the steering before he crashed.

Whatever that is, its 12 years since he died and his death is a great loss the the racing community. No doubt he's special from the rest of the great drivers. However, his full potential was never realised and he'll go down as one of the best drivers ever to race in a F1 car.
