since u already have rb20 inside the car, it'll be better if u just swap the rb20 with an rb25 engine (and gearbox too) cos to change to 1j will be a completely new conversion process, as the sump, engine weight, wiring, placement of accessories like radiator spare tank, power steering fluid tank etc will be different already.

i myself chose this route, previously running rb25 and change to 2j. took me 9 months and until today, still got glitches and not running as it should be yet. better just swap with something easy n wont take so much time, unless ur willing to let ur car be left in workshop for months, then go for 1j/2j. i assure u, it'll be worth it.

yup.. bro khoyos.. dat wat im plannin in my mind 1st.. but sumhow juz wanna know, if any E30 out there do the different conversion in their car.. like mr jin said, E30 wit 13b.. fuh.. juz check my link up there.. i quite amazin actually..

yes 1j/2j more playful n enjoyable to play, like u said, if wiling to leave the car for months in workshp, then take a risk for dat. so hows ur car doin rite now? is she ok? do u have fun with it? story la sket.. ur conversion is manual or auto?

running rb25det with upgraded turbo etc. lasted me 1 month only. after that engine shat itself. was in ur case before, rebuild rb25, or install rb26, or swap to 2jz. the cheapest n best option was 2jz, so i purchased aristo JZS147 auto halfcut, mate with 1jz manual gbox. cut the story short, today car running but the gearbox was faulty (hell to shift gear), neither seller nor mechanic wanted to take the blame so i have to suffer to get another gearbox. no budget so have to wait till end of month to get another gearbox.

rb25=weak engine (observed from r33 model. r34 rb25 quite robust) but performance parts, spare parts super easy to find n cheap. anything wrong/faulty with the engine, the next day can get the car back on the road cos parts are too easy to find. typical service life of engine - 150k km.

2jz=strong engine (based on people's experience, mine still 100% stock). parts are quite hard to find (especially manual gearbox, dont matter 6 speed, 5 speed, NA/turbo) service parts like waterpump, serpent belt, oil filter significantly more expensive compared to rb. typical service life: dunno but there are lots of 10sec stock block 2jz running around in the states that clocked over 300k km.

after conversion, my car's suspension (tuned for rb25 engine) felt "soft", that means 2jz engine is much heavier (i think so lah). exhaust n turbo on passenger side so might clash with ur steering shaft if ur unlucky.

in terms of maintenance, rb25 wins hands down. in terms of high hp capability, thats where the 2jz shines. got pros n cons la bro. better consult ur mechanic.
