With the new Honda Civic Type R now grabbing headlines especially after posting an impressive lap time around the Nurburgring, it seems that the move to turbocharge the Type R is not a bad move after all. With such potential, it seems that Honda will further implement such move to other cars in their line-up, with the next one just might be the CRZ.
This sports hybrid has been on Honda’s brochures for quite some time, but some had anticipated its disappearance due to slow sales. But Honda is not going to give up on this hatchback that easily as rumours are running around that they might be attempting to give a new lease of life to the CRZ with the vicious kick of turbocharged VTEC power.
Car & Driver received this tip from a Honda source, saying that the next CRZ will emerge somewhere in 2017 and will serve as the halo coupe of Honda. And instead of being based on the Jazz, the new CRZ will pretty much be like a shortened Civic, which also suggests of the name ‘Civic CRZ’ being used.
If this does take place and the CRZ ends up using Civic engines, a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder might end up in a CRZ, pushing out 200-horsepower instead of the Type R’s 310. That might not sound much, but at least it is far better than the 130 one will get from the petrol-electric combined output.
