While there might not be much secret in how the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS will look like, the finer details of this car is still being kept as a mystery. Even so, the closer we get to the launch of the new GT3 RS, the more information we are getting on the specifications of this hardcore Porsche.

Typically, the engine residing in the GT3 RS will be a more powerful version of the power plant found in the “tamer” GT3. The new 991 GT3 comes with a 3.8-liter flat-six engine that pushes out 475-horsepower and that is enough to propel the car from zerotohundred in just 3.5 seconds. It may sound impressive, but this particular engine will not be the one powering the new GT3 RS.

According to Auto Express who cited Porsche’s R&D chief Wolfgang Hatz, the new GT3 RS will be powered by an all-new engine. This new naturally-aspirated six-cylinder unit will find its way in the new RS, and is also expected to appear in other 911 variants.

The reason not to go with the 3.8-liter GT3 engine was that they were having troubles in extracting more power from it. Initially, turbocharging seemed to be the way to solve the issue at one point, but it seems like an entirely new naturally-aspirated engine will take the place instead.

Other details being shared is that the engine will be mated to a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission and equipped with four-wheel steering. There is also hope that the manual transmission will be making a comeback as Hatz did not rule out such transmission in longer term, which also depends on the demand.
