Lamborghini’s Gallardo replacement, Huracán, spotted at Sepang!

As we headed up to Lamborghini’s hospitality lounge yesterday (for the Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia event at Sepang), we were greeted by the sight of a spanking new Lamborghini Huracán, the Gallardo’s replacement.

This was the first time that the Huracán was available for open viewing; we’d actually seen the car in the metal some months back, but we weren’t able to share any pictures as our cameras and phones were taken from us, right before we entered the viewing area.

Code-named the LP610-4, the Huracán maintains the 5.2-litre V10 from the Gallardo. However, it is now tuned for 610PS, with power flowing to all four wheels. Its top speed is said to be over 325km/h, with a claimed 3.2sec zerotohundred sprint. A new 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox now replaces the old 6-speed single-clutch unit, and a manual transmission will not be offered. A rear-wheel drive only variant is said to be on the books.

After the Gallardo’s ten year reign, along with its many variants and special editions (many of which we have already driven), it is very refreshing to see something completely new. Design wise, the Huracán shares many visual cues as its Aventador sibling. Mechanically however, the Huracán will share many components with the next generation Audi R8 – both of which take from Volkswagen Group’s modular sports-car architecture.

No official pricing has been announced yet for the Huracán, but we’ve heard that it will hover in around the RM1.14m mark (before taxes). We have also heard that the first few units should arrive on Malaysian roads later this year, and we’re hoping to get our hands on one. What a way to start the Monday blues…
