McLaren’s MP4-12C supercar has always been associated as the rival of the Prancing Horse’s 458 Italia. Although it is a close battle between those two, the 458 now takes the lead with the lighter and more powerful Speciale. But it seems that giving up is not an option for McLaren as it is been reported that they are working on an enhanced version of the 12C.

Set to be launched this year, Autocar reported that a hardcore version of the 12C is being developed by McLaren, and it will outperform 458 Speciale. Utilizing the 12C’s basic structure which includes the carbon fiber MonoCell, it seems that the car will also use the same 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine tuned to produce an output of about 650-horsepower.

The Ferrari 458 Speciale gets 597-horsepower from its 4.5-liter V8 engine, giving it a zerotohundred dash of 3.0 seconds and a top speed of 325 km/h. The additional power could be put to good use, especially with the car now weighs 1395kg.

Expect this new 12C to feature a number of weight-saving features, refined suspension, carbon ceramic brakes, and some aerodynamic improvements. The 12C GT Sprint could serve as the best example of what is coming up, except that the new 12C will not be as extreme in order to be road-legal.
