Nissan DeltaWing Project Prompts Return to Le Mans in 2014

Following the success of Nissan’s DeltaWing project last year, it has prompted the Japanese manufacturer to plan for a comeback in 2014 to the prestigious race of the 24 Heurs du Mans (Le Mans 24 Hours).

After having decided to withdraw their DeltaWing earlier this month, Nissan has subsequently decided to collaborate with NISMO in order to build a Le Mans competitor that will see the use of electric technology – as indicated by Nissan CEO, Carlos Ghosn following the opening of their new headquarters in Yokohama.

The company’s new LMP1 will be making a return under the guise of a “Garage 56” entry – a grid spot reserved for cars showcasing environmentally-friendly technology; according to Nissan’s Global Motorsports Director Darren Cox.

Apparently, right after last year’s Le Mans 24 Hours race, Cox and his team began work on their electric Nissan contender, which has already been confirmed as the ‘Garage 56’ entry for Le Mans in 2014.

Furthermore, Nissan has hinted at the possibility that the use of their pioneering electric vehicle technology will see it trickle down into their cars at some point in the future.

More details about their new charger intended to be released sometime in March.
