Porsche teases new bi-turbo V8 diesel in Cayenne S Diesel: 387PS/850Nm!

Benchmarks are made to be broken, and Porsche are amongst the few who keep breaking them. They will soon be launching their most powerful diesel model in the form of the Cayenne S Diesel; with a 4.2-litre bi-turbo V8 under the hood that produces 387PS and a mountain shifting 850Nm of torque. Performance figures are expected from a diesel mill: 5.7 seconds from Zerotohundred, up to a top speed of 252km/h. Porsche are confident that this new model will top values in both dynamic performance and efficiency, boasting an auto start/stop function with consumption figures of 8.3-litres/100km. An optional 100-litre fuel tank is an option – good for about 1,200km before you need to put for a fuel stop.

As you might expect, exterior features of the Cayenne S Diesel will be very similar to the regular S, looking like ‘just’ any other V8 variant in the Cayenne range. There are subtle cues of course – silver brake calipers, black fins at the front end that emphasize the open air inlets, and ‘diesel’ badges at both front flanks. There’s not much give-away otherwise, with the rear badge identifying it as a Cayenne S.

The driving experience of a typical Porsche is promised – emotional like a sports car, and dynamic in performance and sound. The new diesel V8 mill is said to match the refinement of other Porsche V8 engines. There’s no mention of a Sound Symposer option for the Cayenne S Diesel, so we’ll try to do some research and report back. The PTM active all-wheel drive system acts like a rear-wheel biased vehicle with the front wheel drive action kicks in seamlessly and precisely to improve stability and traction. Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) is an option, and makes the dynamic performance even sportier.

The Porsche Cayenne S Diesel will be launched to the Germany market in January 2013, so we can expect to see it on our shores several months after. We anticipate May – June 2013, and we’re excited!
