Remember F1 Driver Robert Kubica? Well here’s a recap: The Polish driver was severely injured during a rally in Italy when one Robert Kubica crashed his Skoda Fabia S2000 into a guard-rail that impaled the car by breaching into the cabin via the front, consequently almost severing the Polish driver’s right arm.
With Kimi Raikkonen coming in from the rallying scene over the last two years when he found himself without a race-seat towards the end of the 2009 F1 season when Ferrari announced that he would be leaving the team and that Fernando Alonso will be his replacement.
Now that he’s back in F1, having signed a 2-year contract with Lotus, he’s asking if it would be possible if he could enter and drive in his home stage of Rally Finland this August. Something he’s done without fail over the last 3 years, but as Lotus would diplomatically put it: it is due to contract requirements that Raikkonen will not be able to contest in this year’s Rally Finland.
Below is an animated reconstruction of Robert Kubica’s crash at the Rally di Andora, Italy in 2011.
