Confirmed: The Honda Beat is Going Into Production!

Produced back in the 90’s, the Honda Beat was one of the unique kei cars that flooded the streets of Japan during the kei-craze. Other than having a mid-engined, rear-wheel drive configuration, the Beat was also considered special as it was the last car to be approved by Soichiro Honda himself before his death in 1991. So if you are one of those hoping for a return of this cute little car, then we have good news as Honda President Takanobu Ito had just confirmed that a new-generation Beat will soon be heading to Honda’s production line.

Actually the Beat revival rumor had been going on since last year, when Honda put their EV-STER Concept into display at the Tokyo Motor Show. Not only the Concept bears some interesting styling cues, Honda President Ito is also excited and had recently revealed his interest towards the Beat that sparked during the development of the new NSX.

“When the Beat was being built, I was on the development team to work on the NSX sports car and sports cars are something I really love. I was kind of envious of the little cute sports car”, said Ito.

While we could now confirm that the Beat is heading to the production lines, the one important question remains: will it be a sports car to go head on with the Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ, or will it just be another EV? We will bring in the details once they are released, so do stick around!
