BMW S1000RR HP4 (2013)

Ever since BMW released their S1000RR with an in-line 4-cylinder contender back in 2011, it seems that they may have marked their departure from their usual usage of a dual piston boxer power plant. Having just been launched a few weeks ago, BMW Motorrad’s latest offering for 2013 wears a HP4 badge that’s seen much like how BMW badges their 4-wheel performance vehicles proudly with the most powerful letter in the alphabet – ‘M’.

The HP4 badge has been added to signify High Performance 4-cylinder, with 193bhp and 123Nm of torque for the S1000RR HP4’s wet weight of 205.4kg. BMW Motorrad’s new Superbike World Championship contender gets outfitted with a barrage of softwares and equipment.

The HP4 gets a world’s first Dynamic Damping Control (DDC) that automatically adapts the suspension damping to the ever changing road conditions that works with four riding modes: Rain, Sport, Race and Slick. All of which combines to help deliver exceptional feedback whilst maximizing traction and optimising acceleration.

While the HP4 gets ABS as standard, it helps to automatically apply the rear brake once the front gets activated to help with stability and shorten the braking distance. However, once in “Slick” mode, this feature deactivates the 17” seven-spoke rear alloy wheel’s ABS functions, wrapped by a new tyre size of 200/55. Launch control has also been added to the Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) system.

The HP4 has a new Akrapovic titanium exhaust featuring an interference pipe between cylinders two and three, a controlled acoustic valve and a closed-loop catalytic converter that helped to shed some weight. The new exhaust also helps with mid-range torque (6,000 – 9,750rpm) and unlike the S1000RR, the HP4 provides full power regardless of the rider’s mode.

There’s even a more sportier version of the HP4 available, dubbed the Competition Package, it will receive a bevy of carbon fibre body parts, adjustable foot-pegs, folding brake and clutch levers, Racing Blue Metallic wheels and a sponsor sticker kit to add on to it’s already good looks.

The HP4 will only be available in limited numbers till the end of 2014.
