Attending their first international motor show in Paris, McLaren was on hand to pull the sheets off their upcoming supercar that takes its heritage from the iconic and legendary F1, the McLaren P1 – P1 on the grid of course.
On hand to introduce the P1 was Ron Dennis (McLaren Automotive Executive Chairman) and Anthony Sheriff (McLaren Automotive Executive Director), who helped introduce the McLaren P1.
The McLaren F1 on the other hand will be a tough pair of shoes to fill having reset the bar in terms of performance that had supercar makers embarking on a little more than a decade journey in order to play catch up.
The 97%-finalised P1’s windows have been blacked out to hide away the interior since this is the first of a 2 part unveiling, with the second – more detailed showing to be held in March during the Geneva Motor Show in 2013.
The aesthetics are not just eye-candy according to both Dennis and Sheriff, they’ve assured that the car’s all function as well with a rear speed-sensitive electrically deployable and adjustable rear spoiler that’ll help keep the rear in check.
Of course the engine will be mid-mounted, where air will be fed via a roof-mounted snorkel, as was the F1, with a safety cage incorporated into the roof as well and it’s aerodynamics is capable of producing about 600kg worth of down-force (about the weight of a teenage elephant) at about 200kmh. Surely that’s going to translate into helping you build an impressive set of neck muscles.
