Formula Drift Singapore 2010 starts this weekend – Goodyear announces its drifters line-up

Goodyear Malaysia, championing the growing interest of drift while raising the level of the sport in the region, is pleased to announce its return as a sponsor of Formula Drift Singapore 2010 for the third consecutive year.

Back in action once again this weekend, Goodyear, with its team of drivers, will showcase their skills at this year’s highly anticipated event, which will be held at the F1 Pit Building in Singapore. The Goodyear drift team line up will include its three drift veterans – Ariff Johanis, Michael Gan and female drifter, Azrina Jane Abdullah.

The trio will be joined by Hanizam bin Hazmah, 38, who has spent three years behind the wheel of his Nissan A31. This talented individual placed top 5 out of 53 drivers at last year’s exhilarating Goodyear Formula Drift Malaysia 2009. Prior to that, he also achieved podium placement by clinching the 2nd place at the Johor Drift Open 2009. A regular contender in local drift competitions, Hanizam is known to consistently achieve podium placement. More recently, he secured 2nd place in the ACE Drift Challenge 2010, held in Malacca.

“I am honored that Goodyear has given me this opportunity. With Goodyear’s support, local drivers like us now have the chance to enhance our skills and raise the bar to the next level as a viable contender of international events, such as with Formula Drift Singapore,” said Hanizam.

Also joining Team Goodyear at Formula Drift Singapore will be Japanese champion and top Formula DRIFT USA Pro Ryuji Miki. Having secured second placing in the Thailand and Las Vegas editions of Formula Drift, Miki will be a top contender for the title in Singapore.

Daniel “Fanga Dan” Woolhouse is also the latest international driver to join Team Goodyear. Hailing from Whangarei, New Zealand, Fanga Dan has been drifting competitively since 2003 and was crowned the D1 New Zealand champ in 2006.

Team Goodyear will be drifting on Eagle F1 Asymmetric tires, which have been touted for its excellent grip and handling, which are necessary for drifting. “Our participation in motorsports is very much second nature to us – especially since our company has been involved in racing for more than 100 years. Our involvement in motorsports around the world has allowed us to translate the knowledge gained from tire development to innovative technologies found in tires that people use every day,” said Nasution. “The sport of drifting also reflects Goodyear’s product promise of demonstrating control, precision and performance under extreme conditions.”

Team Goodyear will join 40 other drivers hailing from China, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand and will each be gunning for the coveted first place title.
