Willys brought us the 1940 Jeep in response to a US Army requirement for a tough, all-wheel drive light military transport. Now fast forward it to 2012 and here is what German armaments manufacturer Rheinmetall Defence has envisaged it to be – the Amarok M, which currently sits on display at the 2012 Eurosatory International Defence Exhibition in Paris.

Based on the South American-built VW original, the has a reinforced chassis, raised suspension, heavy-duty off-road tyres and an “off-road anti-blocking system.” – Bullbar comprende???

Looks–wise, it seems something that a 4x4 enthusiast thought up and decided to make it so, but then you start to notice the rifle racks, hidden storage bins, advanced communications equipment and electrically powered ring-mount for a medium or heavy machine gun / automatic grenade launcher to help make it look more "war-like".

According to Rheinmetall, the Amarok M is capable to towing up to 2,770kg with a Nato-spec towbar and, even fully armed and armoured, it can still haul A55 up to 177kmh!
