Yesterday I went window shopping for my cars windscreen wipers...

Because I need a good set of wipers as its raining dogs and cats everyday....

Sometimes it even rains cows and elephants!

Especially in the night, having a good set of wipers is important in safety aspect.

The shops offered 2 types, rubber or silicone.

The rubber wipers have got its advantages & disadvantages, so do the silicone wipers...

So ultimately which one to choose?:hmmmm::dontknow::top::hmmmm2:

Was wondering the same thing couple years ago.

Didnt want to spend silly money on 2 sticks of rubber, tried some cheap 7ringgit silicone ones from a DIY store. Worked fine, last one lasted 6months+, just got replacements yesterday.

Get silicone wiper. Silicone is a kind of synthetic rubber and can withstand UV pretty well thus it oxidize or deteriorate slower than rubber. Even cheap silicone wiper are bang for the buck. I bought a pair of silicone wipers from pasar malam RM20 per pair in mid of 2010 and until now it is still working good. All u have to do is spend some time to clean the blade sometimes as dirt and sand will ruin it. Just take a tissue paper or cloth, hold it tight against the blade and wipe it. U'll collect plenty of dirt and sand.

My set is due too. If RM20 wiper can last for 2 years it is definitely good.

My experience:

Rubber wipers, bosch brand hardened and cracked after 3 months. Wipe fine when it was new. But slowly become bad after 1 month.

Silicone wipers, some japanese brand, which I dont understand, 1.5 years and plastic clip gave way first. The silicone is still soft and no tears or cracks. Always wipe water clean off the windscreen.

silicone get my vote... although in my case i have to wait a bit then turn on the wiper... if i turn on when there's little water... it tends to stutter

Go invest in SWV Silicon wipers. Lifetime warranty and anytime they fail (ie- wear out) call them and they'll go to you to replace a new set. And I mean anytime. Even after a year when the wipers aren't working as well anymore.

i tink sumo brand is also a good choice and easy to source.
aroound rm35 to rm40 for my kancil and myvi.bought at giant kota dsara.i tink giant shah alam section 13 also got.
around 1 year plus and still working fine.

however if park under hot sun/open parking...the rubber holds the silicon wiper will expand and loose.since it the boneless type.
i just make sure it fit back nicely.other than dat it shud do fine.

Best wipers ever since anytime they are spoilt, they normally send a motorbike fella to your location to swap it out for you and/or service your existing set.
gone through the website.. can't even see the image.. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

I'd go for silicone but sometimes they are too expensive! or probably the shop owner want to makan me? lol...

Now i just use cheapo RM20 wipers but at the same time, I use Rain X on my windscreen...a bit noisy when its about to dry but the vision has never been better!

Hmm...lets take myvi for an example..one set of svw cost RM80. Pasar malam silicone cost RM20. Durability: svw lifetime warranty, YYC used one for 5 years. Pasar silicone malam I would assume 3 years, although mine still intact and wipe very well after 2 years+.

Dat means to match RM80, we can get 4 sets of pasar malam silicone, which would last for 3x4 = 12 years. So if I'm gonna use my car for more than 12 years, then I'm getting svw. If not, might gamble with pasar malam first haha..

Dun get me wrong ya...I'm just comparing for the sake of my kedekut-ness and taking the gamble. Moreover, Not all pasar malam might work the same as the one I'm having. Btw, the pasar malam wiper I bought were printed Bosch in its box. Don't know if it is ori or ciplak or maybe smuggled, I dint regret getting it haha. Anyone using pasar malam wiper here? Maybe can share your experience?

Hmm I'm also now looking for replacement of my Livina wipers. Almost 2 years since bought new, now it wipes like crap! I bought a set of the cheapest silicone inserts replacements (just the rubber only) for 10rm each and it just sucks! Used it for a day or or two and immediately put back the original worn out one! Maybe fake silicone after all.
Any suggestions where to find a good but cheap replacement inserts only?

Sometimes could be same product. Higher price covers warranty. Like Dura Edge used to be lifetime warranty, then later 5 years, now I see is 2 years only...:banghead:
I am like you, always trying out some ciplak products, but so far my silicone wipers also doing well...

I used to use insert replacement, but of hard silicone, but did not last long. Now on soft silicone but whole replacement not inserts. So far so good.....

I've welded my PIAA wipers to my car. LOL.. They last forever and are very good! They leave this layer silicon on the windscreen which works awesome with the wiper. Only problem is if you change windscreen the wiper tends to work less well. Sigh. Now I have to change the whole wiper arm.

I had PIAA wipers for all my cars...the 1st set I had was on a Atos (circa 2003) sold off 2009....the wipers was still in good condition on the day it was sold....the ones on my pick up is now 5 years plus already......I bought the wipers in Japan and usually I will buy a few pairs since it's super cheap when they have sales....

Use alcohol to wipe off the PIAA logo too. So incognito, very good. Plus welding it make it impossible to steal. Too expensive to be stolen in 15 seconds. I used to be so good at swapping out wipers, my wife would pass me the wipers and start to walk back into the house and I'd be right behind her. She'd ask what about the wipers, I'd tell her already changed looo.

Swiping wipers was the big thing when silicon wipers were new. Bloody irritating hence the weld.
