Don't get too excited, this is not a production car but just a prototype. Now that we have got that out of the way, lets get back to some wishful thinking. Volvo's are generally thought of as boring, boxy and all about ferrying the older generation safely across where ever to perform their elderly duties. Well just about, if you disregard the iconic 850R and the fact that Volvo has and continues to participate in a number of racing series namely the Swedish Touring Car Championship.
Volvo currently contests its C30 hatch and helping Volvo prepare the car for the races is Polestar Performance. The C30 racer is a bit of a baby blue monster that just happens to sport the Volvo badge, you didn't think Volvo prepped this all by itself now did you? Well, Polestar Performance went to work on the C30 and this is what you get when you let the minds of race junkies loose on what a street legal performance car should be like. They basically tuned down and road legalised the race version of the Volvo C30, and now we have the ultimate hot hatch Volvo, ever.
And it truly is a monster, what with its turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-five boosted to 405 horsepower, Haldex all-wheel drive, massive brakes and raft of other performance add-ons, there are few other hot hatches around that could take on this C30.
Autocar recently got behind this prototype and described it as a well-sorted version of Mitsubishi's Lancer Evolution or even a "junior Nissan GT-R." High praise for a hot hatch, and there's no reason to doubt them, check out the video below for yourself to hear what they have to say. We'll continue praying for the birth of the ultimate Volvo of all time.
