Some of Nissan’s top engineers must have a profound love of Germany, or at least like living there, because they seem to be spending plenty of time at one particular town, the village of Nurburg, Germany. Yeah, that’s the place that’s home to the Nurburgring.
The Nurburgring was the scene of the crime when the GT-R obliterated the ‘Ring lap times of some exotica when it first did a run and now in its 2012 model year incarnation, the GT-R is back to shave some precious seconds off its ‘Ring time and the bragging rights of its competitors.
Apart from an extra 45hp, giving it 530hp in total, the 2012 GT-R also sports some changes to the overall drive and handling department to make it quicker than its predecessor. The time to beat, an impressive 7:26:7. The end result, a blistering 7:24:22, 2.48-seconds off the old mark.
Just to put it in perspective, that’s quicker than a Maserati MC12. In fact, that time puts the GT-R well ahead of some of the planet’s most desirable exotic machines such as the Pagani Zonda F Clubsport, Ferrari Enzo, Porsche Carrera GT and plenty of other machines that would get you all warm and tingly in the loins. Nonetheless, the GT-R still comes in behind the Dodge Viper ACR and the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.
The real driving action begins around the 3:10-second mark in the video, so hit play and let it load.
