Hot off the heels of their MP4-12C, McLaren have already reportedly been working on a flagship supercar that would have the likes of the Bugatti Veyron in its crosshairs. British magazine Autocar has the deets on the devilish Mac that could soon be a regular sight in the rear-view mirrors of Veyrons.

According to the report, the car will be powered by a 5-liter V8 with 799hp and 799Nm of torque. Although all this still simmers in the speculation pan, McLaren’s Executive Chairman, Ron Dennis, did label the Veyron a ‘piece of junk’ last year, fuelling claims that McLaren would be working on a rival.

Dubbed the ‘Mega Mac,’ it will be built upon a carbon fiber monocell similar to the MP4-12C. The aforementioned engine will be developed together with Ricardo. Cog-swapping will be handled by means of a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox from Graziano that allows it a century sprint time of just over 2.8-seconds.

McLaren are aiming for a production run of around 100 to 150 units annually over a three to four year period, if the car does actually materialise.

5.0 V8? is it possible to beat veyron's 8.0 W16? heheh... the standard veyron will smoke the mclaren, let alone the veyron supersport with 200 extra horses.. huhuhu...

maybe the mclaren were hoping to build a sprinter to beat the bugatti in century sprint.

Even the old McLaren F1 almost beat the veyron. I too think the veyrons a piece of junk. Mclaren's gonna utilise weight, aerodynamics and torque

actually i think it will be possible mclaren are darn good at weight saving and aerodynamics
cant wait to see what happens if it materialises

like i said b4..... take Venom GT. The beast will take Veyron as breakfast.

do not get fooled by "quantity" instead of quality. 16 cylinders? bring it on.

if not mistaken, the old mclaren is V12. but maybe it could beat the bugatti if they fit force induction to the v8.

agree with skazareth....

venom GT....big twin turbo v8 engine in lightweight small nimble lotus elise chasis.....the outcome???? ultimate speed....

veyron was too heavy.....and wasteee...much like the old american muscle car concept......only got big muscle but not so clever brain....consume petrol that even petrol pump taukeh would go bankrupt....
