Tragedi Litar Batu Tiga

Sebaik saja masuk ke Shell Straight selepas mengambil selekoh F&N, Ford Escort BDA berkuasa kuda 320bhp yang dipandu Harvey Yap terus memecut laju meninggalkan kereta kedua jauh di belakang.
Seperti mana ramalan penonton dan harapan penaja Team Nescafe, Harvey Yap akan sekali lagi mencatat juara siri Super Saloon dalam Malaysia Grand Prix 1977 ini.
Tetapi tiba-tiba Harvey Yap terkejut mendengar bunyi letupan yang kuat pada tayar depan sebelah kiri dan sepantas kilat halalintar keretanya terus merepuh pagar di litar Batu Tiga itu.
Jerit pekik dan raungan yang kuat jelas kedengaran di kalangan penonton yang sedang berdiri di tepi pagar itu. Darah tersembur dan cebisan daging melayang ke udara.
Ambulan, pasukan pengawal keselamatan, anggota polis dan orang ramai semua berpusu ke situ. Harvey Yap keluar dari kereta lumbanya lalu membuka helmet dan dia terus menangis dan meraung sekuat hati apabila melihat 4 mayat kanak-kanak bergelimpangan di hadapan keretanya yang merepuh pagar tadi. 2 kanak-kanak mati dalam perjalanan ke hospital, sementara seramai 23 orang turut cedera.
Itulah peristiwa sebenar yang telah terjadi ketika berlangsungnya Malaysia Grand Prix pada tahun 1977 dulu. Aku coretkan kembali catatan ini demi ramai anak-anak muda sekarang yang meminati lumba kereta, tetapi ramai yang tidak tahu akan peristiwa itu.
Aku menyaksi dengan mata dan kepala aku sendiri bagaimana Harvey Yap yang trauma dipapah masuk ke pit. Dia menangis bagaikan seorang kanak-kanak yang kematian ibu.
Dalam situasi itu, aku turut menjadi serba salah. Pagi tadi turun dari rumah, aku dileteri oleh ibu aku. “Isteri dalam hospital nak bersalin, kau nak pergi berlumba juga!!”
Pada awal pagi tadi semangat aku memang tinggi. Tambah pula dalam official practise 2 hari lepas, aku berjaya membuat catatan masa terbaik yang memberikan aku kedudukan keempat di antara 38 buah motosikal yang mengambil bahagian.
Sebagai anak Melayu pertama tajaan Castrol, semangat aku dan harapan penaja memang tinggi. Tetapi peristiwa yang meragut nyawa itu telah merentap jantung aku sehingga debaran bagaikan ombak monsoon Laut Cina Selatan. Ingatan aku terus menerjah ke Hospital Universiti mengenangkan isteri terbaring di katil menunggu kelahiran anak kami.
Sebaik pandangan aku beralih ke litar, motosikal aku yang berkuasa 900cc dengan nombor 32 sudah pun dibawa masuk oleh krew kami. Dalam pada itu, 4 orang gadis Castrol yang berpayung dan berpakaian skirt pendek yang sexy datang menjemput aku. Maklumlah pelumba glamer pada masa itu.
Aku benar-benar serba-salah. Hasrat berlumba memang ada. Tetapi bukan saja semangat aku sudah luntur, bahkan tenaga aku secara tiba-tiba terus lemah. Raungan dan tangisan tadi masih jelas kedengaran.
Tapi apakan daya aku. Dalam keadaan tersepit itu, aku terpaksa teruskan juga untuk berlumba. Sepatutnya Clerk-of-Course ada bidang kuasa untuk menghentikan baki perlumbaan selepas peristiwa berdarah tadi.
Dalam membuat warm-up lap ketika aku tiba di tempat kejadian, pasukan keselamatan dan medic serta orang ramai masih berpusu-pusu membantu mereka yang cedera dan mengangkat mayat masuk ke ambulan.
Sebaik tiba di grid position, motosikal kami disusun secara berderet kerana dalam perlumbaan Series Production Motorcycle ini dimulakan secara ‘Le Man (di mana pelumba akan berlari untuk mendapat motosikal masing-masing).
Dalam dada berdebar dan ingatan yang bersimpang siur, aku kuatkan juga semangat untuk berlumba. Tetapi ternyata aku gagal mengawal semua itu. Tambah pula motosikal aku sudah dua kali hampir terbabas ketika mengambil selekoh Rothman.
Ternyata rantai dan sprocket motosikal aku telah haus akibat pagi tadi aku turut berlumba dalam acara Grand Prix Motorcycle sebanyak 50 pusingan. Sudahlah semalam juga aku turut serta dalam acara Improved Motocycles sebanyak 25 pusingan.
Tetapi yang benar-benar menjadi kemusyukilan dan tanda tanya, setiap kali aku tiba di tempat kejadian, motosikal aku akan bergegar bagaikan bagaikan seekor kuda liar.
Matahari dah hampir terbenam kami menamatkan perlumbaan sebanyak 25 pusingan. Aku benar-benar kecewa dan penaja juga turut bermasam muka apabila aku hanya berjaya menduduki tempat kelapan keseluruhan.

If a judge asks the organizer "Why weren't there more barricades installed in such a dangerous undertaking?", the same judge will also ask the spectators "If you as a REASONABLE MAN knew that the sport is dangerous, what were you doing so close to the track?".

If a spectator were to claim damages from the organizer, he will be quickly shown the Hall case and he will be forced to think again. So let's not quickly point the finger to any parties. Let the judge decide that.
Ezzat has many friends in this forum as well as other automotive forums. Yes he's proven that he is hot-blooded chap, but if he is not hot-blooded and easily excited he won't be an automotive enthusiast. He will be playing chess. There are a lot of young, hot-blooded individuals in this forum, trying to drive faster and faster, and it could most probably include me and you too.
But unlike most of us who watches or participates in motorsport events, Ezzat organizes them. That is one BIG difference. He has his fair share of friends when all goes well, but when something wrong happens?
The Ministry is pressuring him. Where are his motorsport 'friends' and 'brothers' at this time? Where are his sponsor friends? His drifting friends? People who asked for his help in participating, getting free tickets, etc.?
I know some chose to abandon him. Some even offered condolence as if somebody is dead. How fragile it is, friendship based on a material possession: cars. Or maybe it's not even 'friendship' in the first place: it's just opportunism. Quick to gain benefit from him, similarly quick to attack him.
But remember: this accident can easily happen to any other organizer, be it sanctioned or unsanctioned. Driving instructor died, car rammed into spectators. It happens now, it happened before, and it will happen again in the future. Just remember one thing: if something wrong happens, your friends who you know based on your material possession will abandon you.

Atas permintaan rakan2 yg perihatin terutama "Cikgu Mohd Ali", di sini ingin kami update kan status mangsa-mangsa tragedi. Seramai 17 orang telah terlibat pada malam kejadian. Dari jumlah itu seramai 13 orang pula telah diberikan rawatan sebagai pesakit luar dan disahkan oleh pihak hospital tiada sebarang kecederaan serius. Manakala 4 orang lagi (Ami, Naim, Fairuz & Iskandar) dikelas kan sebagai kritikal dan terpaksa ditahan di hospital pada malam kejadian.

Lawatan kami berterusan sehingga hari ini menampakkan Fairuz telah pun sedar dari koma beberapa hari dan sudah mengenali rakan2 yang hadir melawat. Fairuz bakal dipindah kan ke wad biasa setelah doktor mengesahkan beliau semakin pulih & stabil.

Iskandar menjalani pembedahan luka dalaman abdomen pada Ahad jam 2:00ptg dan turut dipindahkan ke unit ICU untuk pemantauan doktor pakar. Iskandar sehingga lawatan kami pada hari ini masih belum sedar sepenuhnya. Walaubagaimanapun, menurut kata doktor pakar yang memantau perkembangan beliau telah menampakkan tanda-tanda yg cukup positif untuk pulih. Iskandar juga akan dipindah kan ke wad biasa setelah doktor mengesahkan beliau semakin pulih.
Pihak MUSC dan KBS amat bersimpati dengan semua mangsa yang terlibat. Kami percaya setiap apa yang terjadi ada hikmah-Na. Pada penganjur2 drag racing yang lain, pasti kan lah anda mengutama kan asek keselamatan pengunjung semaksimum mungkin. 2 years back for the 1st time i been to this drag race in cyberjaya ....as a spectator in my point of view was asking in my heart there is so little safety apply to spectator & race driver.
spectator: the only safety i saw was tree some along the drag track and some metal railing to block spectator going to the track or walking across the track....
Drag driver: only safety is helmet, they car been lighten to the max as possible ...none of the car have roll cage ... saw some car door even more extreme.... door some part of the lower Structure been remove to save weight... smart way ....only saw a piece a metal hanging car door frame like a cardboard hanging loose without a frame...
then the most danger part drag car launch/ race ... there will be few joker hold on to the drag car till almost green light then let go.... if some of them their brain respond slow what happen? been pull/ drag together right? haha when accident happen no time for joke... safety come 1st....
after been to this local drag racing ... i wish not to see any accident as they safety level almost none.... not much different compare with mat rempit in the street.
just a legal way of street racing with out police mess around....
