Since most McLaren models will end up having a racing version of their own, it was only a matter of time before they turn the 570S into a fire breathing track machine. And after releasing a single teaser image, McLaren finally took the covers off their new race car, the 570S GT4.

Based on the Sports Series, this is one of the two track-only derivatives with the other one being the 570S Sprint. Both machines are developed in conjunction with the motorsport division of McLaren and GT specialist CRS GT. However, this new GT4-spec model is still not ready, and their development program includes a season-long participation in the British GT championship.

Since McLaren wanted to test the car in a racing environment, this new car will be raced by customer team Black Bull Ecurie Ecosse. The GT4 features carbon fiber bodywork and aluminium over the wider tracks front and rear. The suspension is now two-way adjustable dampers with coil-over springs.

As a must on all race cars, the new aerodynamic package adds up a massive fixed rear wing and a larger front splitter. McLaren had also mounted an extra radiator at the front, just below the bonnet. The 3.8-liter twin turbocharged V8 engine is still mated to the seven-speed double-clutch gearbox and McLaren will be revealing more details on a later date.

“The introduction of the 570S GT4 is doing the same in the motorsport world, and will bring the opportunity to own and race a McLaren – previously limited to a very small number of people – to a much wider group,” said Mike Flewitt, McLaren CEO.
