If you enjoyed watching races like the revolutionary Formula E, then this new race series might tickle your fancy. Dubbed as the Electric GT World Series, this new GT championship hopes to be the first 100-percent zero emission GT championship in the world and they are eyeing for 10 teams to take part in their 2017 season.
The race organizer has their eyes locked on a seven-race season which includes events in Europe, America and Asia, but has specifically mentioned places like Barcelona, Donington, Mugello and Estoril to be among the possible venues.
As for the car, the Electric GT World Series will be fielding the Tesla Model S P85+ which already has amazing figures of zerotohundred in 3.2 seconds in standard trim. The racing version however will receive better suspension and brakes, improved cooling, as well as reduced kerb weight to properly undertake its task at the circuit.
“We chose the Tesla Model S simply because it is one of the best cars ever made, and certainly one of the best 100-percent electric cars,” said Agustin Paya, Technical Director for Electric GT Holdings, owner and promoter of the championship.
“The 10 teams and 20 cars that race in the first season will race identical cars, similar to the street version. With 416-horsepower and 601Nm of torque, there is no need to add anything to the motor”.
“The Model S is destined to become a GT champion. The fun of the Electric GT category is that we are going to watch commercially available models you can see on the streets racing on circuits around the world. That is the idea, it is our mission to promote sustainable mobility,” he added.
