The Last Lancer Evolution, the Lancer Evolution X
The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is one of Mitsubishi’s longest running performance vehicle that had. They had other models as well, like the legendary 3000GT, Eclipse, Galant VR4, but none as long lived as the Lancer Evolution. Up till recently, that is. Managing Executive Officer at Mitsubishi Motors Corp, Kanenori Okamoto has said, “It will not exist as we know it. It will be replaced in spirit by an SUV with high performance.”
The Lancer Evolution IV, a personal favourite
Some of you may be cringing now, but according to Managing Director at Mitsubishi Motors UK, Lance Bradley, he said, “Green is still fun to drive. It’s a challenge to make it fun, but not a particularly difficult one. Electric vehicle performance is very good.”
The Mitsubishi MiEV Evolution, a Pikes Peak racer
Technology such as the Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) four wheel drive system from the Lancer Evolution will find its way to the new hybrid SUV. Besides that, other technologies from the Pikes Peak racer, the MiEV Evolution would also be found on the SUV.
Mitsubishi MiEV, their first foray into EVs.
Mitsubishi has yet to find a suitable SUV that will be the platform of the new Evo replacement. Despite that, don’t be too surprised if Mitsubishi designs and builds a new SUV from ground up as the Evo replacement.
Subaru has launched their eleventh iteration of their iconic Evo fighter, the WRX STI. Will the Evo replacement be able to go against the WRX STI like all other Evos did in the past? Or perhaps Mitsubishi is eyeing a more premium market? Perhaps having their target set on hot SUVs like the Porsche Macan? Only time will tell for now.
