After hosting the opening round of the 2014 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia Series, the angry bulls are back at Sepang as the 5.543km international circuit was given the honour to host the 2014 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo World Finals. With racers from all over the world flocking to our F1-approved circuit, the battle is going to be intense as all eyes are set in taking home the win for the 2014 season.
Although it might be a blessing for some who had experience in driving around the circuit, Sepang always has something in store to those who are not taking it seriously. The drivers would not only need to deal with the aggressive drivers all around, but they would also need to bear with the intense heat at Sepang. It is totally an opposite experience compared to last year’s World Finals where the Vallelunga was cold and drenched during the race period.
And under this sunny circuit, it was a moment to remember for Bonaldi Motorsports as Edoardo Piscopo and Milos Pavlovic took the win for the PRO Class World Final title after clinching the PRO Class European Crown on Friday. The Italian-Serbian duo took the chequered flag in Race 1 and settled for second place in Race 2 behind their teammate Mirko Bortolotti, whom had put on a great show climbing from P13 all the way to P1.
American Richard Antinucci from O’Gara Motorsports was only five points behind the winners, having secured P2 in Race 1 and P3 to finish. Alberto Viberti from Autocarrozzeria Imperiale took third position in Race 1.
The PRO Class World Title was awarded to Kevin Conway-Lawson Aschenbach (Charge Racing), after a fierce battle with Gerhard Tweraser-Tomas Pivoda. The duo from GRT Grasser Racing failed to make it to the chequered flag in Race 2 and was forced to settle with P2 overall. Joining them on the podium in Race 1 were Mikhail Grachev (Automobili Lamborghini Racing Team Germany) and Alberto di Folco (Autocarrozzeria Imperiale), and in Race 2 Mikko Eskelinen-Dimitri Enjalabert (Automobili Lamborghini Racing Team Luxemberg) and Danial Hiqmar-Fairuz Fauzy (GRT Grasser Racing Team).
Welshman Jack Rattenbury dominated the AM Class as the Lamborghini Racing Team UK stormed away from his pack and had some head-to-head battles with the more expert drivers. Second place overall went to Italian Simone Pellegrinelli (DTMotorsport), who also took the AM Class European Title on Friday.
The 2015 race series will surely be posing a new challenge as the Lamborghini Huracan LP620-2 Super Trofeo race car will be making its debut, replacing the aging Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo. We will surely be waiting for the angry bulls in making a touchdown at Sepang International Circuit and let their mighty V10 sing the symphony of speed!
