After the BMW 1M was discontinued, the world is now anxiously waiting for a compact BMW to come from their insane M Division. The prototype version of the 2-Series-based M2 Coupe had been spied and spotted a couple of times on both the roads and the tracks for quite some time, but we never really had the clue on when the car will hit production; until now.
It seems like the M2 will soon be entering the production phase in November, as revealed by BMW forum 2addicts on a screenshot showing the US market build sheet. This means that the US-spec version will arrive sooner than expected as it was earlier speculated that such version will enter production phase in March 2016.
We are expecting the M2 Concept to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March with very little difference from the production version. Powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, the improved N55 engine from the M235i is expected to produce around 365-375-horsepower range to avoid entering the M4’s territory.
Aside from the usual mechanical and bodywork from the guys at M Division, a six-speed manual transmission is most likely to be a standard feature for the car, with a seven-speed DCT offered as an option.
