The Mercedes Mclaren SLR has been around for slightly over five years now, that makes it a grand daddy in the automotive world and just like all grand daddy’s, it’s days are numbered. But the SLR is no normal grand daddy, it’s the equivalent of a rock star here in the real world and rock stars deserve their last hoorah. They have their final concerts, final solo, final gig and the SLR has this as its last hoorah, the Mercedes Mclaren SLR Speedster.
The rendering is designed by talented illustrator John Sibal and is clearly based on spy photo’s that have been circling the net for a while now. I’m not sure if they’ll be calling it the ‘Speedster’ but that’s what its being called for the moment.
The only component to be carried over from SLRs of the past are the headlights. The hood, which previously melded into the A-pillars, is more flat, the nose draws even more direct inspiration from McLaren-Mercedes Formula 1 racing cars; the exhaust pipes have been moved into the side vents and if you haven’t already noticed, there is no roof, none whatsoever, only two wind deflectors that rise inches high to keep the bugs out of your mouth at 200mph.
Though its still just a rendering, it’ll be interesting to see how Mercedes and Mclaren are going to top this.
