Honda Malaysia Doubles Down on Hybrids: New CR-V Launches with Dual e:HEV Variants

Honda Malaysia is shifting its electrification strategy into high gear. In a first for the brand’s local lineup, the newly launched CR-V now features two distinct hybrid choices: the new e:HEV E and the flagship e:HEV RS.

This move signals a clear intent to make hybrid technology more accessible to the Malaysian market, moving it from a niche “top-spec only” luxury to a core part of the mid-range offering.

Performance: The 2.0L e:HEV Powertrain

Both hybrid variants are powered by Honda’s advanced 2.0L e:HEV system. Designed to balance SUV-sized power requirements with fuel efficiency, the powertrain delivers:

  • Maximum Output: 184PS

  • Maximum Torque: 335Nm

  • Drive Modes: Automatically switches between EV Drive, Hybrid Drive, and Engine Drive.

A new Individual Drive Mode has also been introduced for the e:HEV variants, allowing drivers to customize steering and throttle response to their specific liking.

New Tech and “Digital Key” Integration

The 2026 CR-V isn’t just a mechanical update; it’s a significant tech refresh. For the first time, Honda Malaysia is introducing a Digital Key, allowing owners to lock, unlock, and start their car using only a smartphone.

Across all variants, several high-end features have now become standard equipment:

  • 9-inch Advanced Display Audio: Includes built-in Google Audio Services (Google Assistant, Maps, and Play).

  • Wireless Connectivity: Full support for wireless Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™.

  • Safety Suite: Inclusion of Blind Spot Information (BSI) and Cross Traffic Monitor (CTM) to assist in lane changes and reversing.

Aesthetics and Pricing

Visually, the CR-V gets a boost with a new Blazing Red Pearl color option. To differentiate the trims, the hybrid variants sport 18-inch Berlina Black alloy wheels, while the turbocharged variant stays with Sparkle Silver.

Inside the flagship RS, the cabin has been darkened with a “hairline film” finish and RS-embossed seating to lean into a sportier, more premium aesthetic.

Pricing Overview (On-The-Road without Insurance):

Variant Powertrain Price
RS 2.0L e:HEV (Hybrid) RM195,900
V 1.5L Turbocharged RM181,900
E 2.0L e:HEV (Hybrid) RM178,200
