If you are looking for an SUV that has not only the looks but the punch to go with it, Porsche’s new Macan might just be the one you are looking for. This updated entry-level compact SUV from Porsche was recently introduced by Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP), the authorised importer of Porsche vehicles in Malaysia at the Sepang International Kart Circuit.
The introduction of this entry-level model extends Porsche’s compact SUV line-up where it now features a four-cylinder turbocharged engine developed specifically for the Macan. This 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine develops 252-horsepower from 5,000-6,000rpm and 370Nm of torque and like all Macans, comes standard with a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission.
This allows the Macan to sprint from zerotohundred in 6.7 seconds, and a faster 6.5 seconds when fitted with the optional Sport Chrono Package. Top speed is rated at 229km/h. If fuel consumption is important to you, the Macan had proved itself to be very efficient, consuming 7.4l – 7.2l per 100km according to the NEDC (depending on the mounted wheel and tire combination).
With the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive system, the Macan is able to convert its power properly into exceptional sporty driving dynamics. An air suspension system with levelling control including the PASM with adaptive dampers is available as an option. The Macan is the lightest SUV made by Porsche, tipping the scales at 1,770kg.
The Macan also does well in the visual department where one can instantly tell it’s a Porsche from the “hovering” four-point LED daytime running lights, while the Porsche Dynamic Light System is available as an optional feature. The Macan also comes with comfort seats with electric 14-way adjustment optional feature, a lane-departure warning system and a powered tailgate.
Coming in standard in all new Macan models is the latest Porsche Communication Management (PCM) where it now features a seven-inch touchscreen. With a redesigned user interface that enables a smartphone-like operation, the new PCM also comes with Bluetooth, USB and SD card interfaces, enabling it to integrate smartphones and memory media. There is also the option to connect an iPhone via the PCM to use Apple CarPlay.
