Aside from being a regular in the local grass root motorsports scene like our own TIMETOATTACK, Leona Chin also keeps herself busy by participating in races like the Renault Clio Cup Asia Series. And after securing her first ever podium finish in Zhuhai back in March, Leona was on fire at the Korea International Circuit where she scored a double 2nd position finish at the second round of the race series.
Racing in the eye-catching bright pink Team WebTVAsia Renault Clio Cup, Leona started both races from the second position on the grid, right beside overall series leader Kenneth Lim. Luck was on her side on the Korean round as while she encountered difficult track conditions back in Zhuhai, Leona managed to adjust herself better to the circuit this time and keeping her position to the end of the race.
Race 2 was not as straightforward as the previous one as she managed to overtake Kenneth to take the lead of the race. Engaging in a series of neck-to-neck battle, she finally had to give the lead to Kenneth, but not giving up her 2nd position to the pursuing Ma Hon Wah.
“I pushed myself hard today knowing there’s a good chance of winning. Kenneth is always a tough competitor so I am happy to have improved from 3rd (in Zhuhai leg) to 2nd in Korea. For sure I will aim for the top spot again in the next race in Buriram, Thailand,” said Leona in a post-race interview.
The Clio Cup Series travel to its third stop of a 6-leg Asia tour at the Chang International Circuit, Thailand on 11-12 June. The championship will then return to China for the remaining races in Chengdu, Shanghai and Zhejiang.
