GoPro Hero5 Top Features
These 7 All-new features make the GoPro Hero5 unbeatable
1 – Built In Video Stabilisation for both Hero5 and Hero5 Session
They’ve improved image quality even further this time around. Turned on by default, the GoPro Hero5 has a built-in video stabilisation feature where it takes jarring movements from recorded footages, then smoothens them out. This should benefit shakey situations like say when being helmet-mounted in a go-kart drive for example.
2- Packs more microphones and feature Stereo audio recording
Previous GoPros handled audio decently although they can be sensitive to clicks and such especially when contained in its clear case, which also contributes to muffled audio. Now, the Hero5 has 3 microphones with an advanced built-in function that cleverly compares, chooses and cancels out the wind or background noise. Being caseless further improves the audio aspect of the Hero5.
3 – No more case needed, now waterproof on its own
No more clear casings to bother with, the new Hero5 is now a self contained unit that is water resistant to up to 10m. This means one less aspect to worry about and basically enables the Hero5 to be deployed right out of the box and into the water. Having no case also means better audio, especially with the Hero5’s new stereo microphones.
4 – New HDR Mode takes care of dark spots, removes the need for exposure control
If you’ve ever done on-board driving videos with a GoPro, you’d know how painful it is to achieve the best light balance between the cockpit and the outside. Now, the new Hero5 aims to eliminate that with new HDR ability. Essentially recording multiple exposures in the same footage to deliver best lighting for differing light conditions.
5 – New Linear Mode removes fisheye effect for a levelled horizon
One of the greatest thing about the GoPro is its wide-angle ability. However, more often than not, it results in distorted horizons and subjects. The new Linear mode straightens the footage while cleverly retaining most of the wide-angle. This is definitely going to change GoPro videography for the better.
6 – Voice Command takes your hand away
If you like, you can now tell the Hero5 what to start or stop recording and a host of other commands (even includes easter egg type commands we heard). Useful for when both your hands are occupied or just especially when you need to commandeer more than a couple of GoPros in one go.
7 – Finally has built-in GPS
With GPS integrated into the Hero5, one can easily pinpoint moments in their footages or photos. With the ability to log recording position and timestamp at all times, this would likely eliminate the need to worry about the GoPro’s internal clock as well.
