Venturing into new grounds, TC Euro Cars today previewed Renault’s first ever urban crossover that combines the best of three different worlds in their new Renault Captur. The Captur incorporates the expressive styling and high driving position of an SUV, the cabin space and modular interior of an MPV and the agility of a compact sedan.

“The Captur epitomises Renault’s new human design language, which puts people in the forefront of its concerns. Inspired by three keywords – simple, sensuous and warm – this new design strategy will guide the brand’s future vision and pave way for a clear and consistent range of models,” said Kuan Kim Luen, Chief Executive Officer, TC Euro Cars Sdn Bhd.

Despite looking like an SUV, the Captur does not have a massive engine underneath the hood. It is powered by a 1.2-liter Turbo Control Efficiency power unit that delivers performance ‘equivalent to a traditional 1.8-liter engine’. The Captur rolls with 120-hp at 4,900rpm and a peak torque of 190Nm available from as low as 2,000rpm. Mated to a six-speed Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) transmission, the Captur offers best-in-class fuel efficiency of up to 5.4L/100km.

Safety has also not been compromised in the Captur as Renault has fitted the crossover with a variety of safety features to make it safe for the occupants. Being the 15th Renault model to secure Euro NCAP’s maximum five-star passive safety rating, the occupants are kept safe with four airbags. The front end of the Captur has also been designed to minimise injury to pedestrians. The Captur also comes with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Roll Movement Intervention, Hill Start Assist and ABS and Emergency Brake Assist.

Since its debut, Renault has sold over 360,000 units of the Captur globally to date. Aiming to penetrate the Malaysian crossover market, the Captur’s price in Malaysia is estimated to be in the range of RM 118,000 – 123,000 and launch availability is slated for Q4 2015. Like all Renault passenger cars, service intervals for the Captur are 10,000km or six months, whichever comes first. The Captur also comes with a five-year unlimited mileage manufacturer’s warranty.
