Will there ever be a Ferrari SUV? It may sound absurd but the way things are going now, it is not entirely an impossible thing to happen as Bentley officially takes the covers off their new SUV. Called the ‘Bentayga’, it will come with a price tag of USD 229,100 (RM 985,015) which is more expensive than Land Rover’s SV Autobiography or Mercedes’ G65.
And for that kind of price tag, you will get what Bentley describes as “the fastest, most powerful, most luxurious and most exclusive SUV in the world”. The Bentayga is not really that far off from the EXP 9 F concept but has its front fascia closely resembles the Continental GT Flying Spur instead of the Mulsanne.
This new crossover gets a set of LED headlights, a front skid plate, B-shaped front fender vents and aluminium roof rails. The exterior styling might be odd to some but Bentley said that the aluminium-intensive body provides 236kg of weight saving compared to traditional steel construction.
Power is provided by a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 engine with an output of 600bhp and 663 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with four-wheel drive system that allows the Bentayga to sprint from zerotohundred in 4.0 seconds and has a top speed of 301km/h.
The interior has the familiar split cockpit design with premium leather upholstery and a choice of seven different veneers. The model comes with a standard panoramic glass roof split into two panes where the front panel tilts and slide while the rear panel is fixed. Bentley will also be offering a four seat variant that features two individual rear seats which comes with 18-way power adjustable, heating, ventilation and massage functions.
